Haggai preaches to a discouraged people. They returned 20 years ago to rebuild the Temple but stopped due to apathy. The foundations were overgrown while people said: "The time has not yet come."
Haggai is like a practical foreman. He challenges the excuse of "wrong timing." His message: your life is stuck because your priorities are inverted.

The theology connects our economy with our spirituality.
1. The Bag with Holes:
"You earn wages to put them into a bag with holes." Dissatisfaction was a result of spiritual negligence. God was "blowing away" their gains because they put Him second.
2. Glory of the Latter House:
The new Temple looked small. God promises: "The glory of this latter house shall be greater than the former." Glory depends on Presence, not gold. Jesus would physically enter this Temple.
3. Consider Your Ways:
The key phrase is a call to intentional reflection. Stop living on autopilot. Where is your routine taking you?
Where does Haggai meet you?
1. Spiritual Procrastination:
We say: "I'll serve God when I have money/time." Haggai says: "The time is now." Blessing follows obedience, it doesn't precede it.
2. Chronic Dissatisfaction:
Feel like you run but get nowhere? Maybe you are building your "paneled house" on the skeleton of an abandoned spiritual life. Return to the Altar.
3. Small Beginnings:
Afraid to start because it looks insignificant? God says: "Be strong... and work, for I am with you." God measures greatness by faithfulness, not size.
