The story takes place in the Persian Empire. While some Jews returned to Jerusalem, many remained in Persia. It is a political thriller involving a volatile king, a genocidal villain, a faithful cousin, and an orphan girl who becomes queen.
What starts as a fairy tale turns into a nightmare when a decree is signed to exterminate all Jews.

The theology of Esther is the theology of "Divine Coincidence".
1. The Hidden God:
God is never named, forcing us to look for Him between the lines. Was it "luck"? No. The book shouts that God is sovereign backstage. He controls the dice and the kings.
2. For Such a Time as This:
Mordecai's central phrase defines purpose. Our position and influence are not for our comfort, but for the redemption of others. Privilege creates responsibility.
3. The Great Reversal:
The gallows Haman built for Mordecai was used to hang Haman himself. Esther teaches that God specializes in last-minute turnarounds.
Where does Esther meet you?
1. When God is Silent:
Sometimes we don't hear God's voice. Sometimes He acts through closed doors and "random" meetings. Esther teaches us to trust God's hand even when we can't see His face.
2. In Your Secular Environment:
Esther was in a pagan Palace. She teaches us how to live out faith in a corrupt workplace, using the system to save God's people.
3. The Courage to Be You:
Esther had to reveal her identity, risking her life ("If I perish, I perish"). Are you hiding who you are in Christ to be accepted? True freedom comes when we stop pretending.
