Isaiah is the "Prince of Prophets". Written during turbulent times, its structure mirrors the Bible: 66 chapters. First 39 (Judgment) match the OT; last 27 (Comfort) match the NT.
Isaiah saw the future with scary clarity, naming Cyrus centuries before. But his main focus is the "Suffering Servant", the Messiah.
"But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed."ISAIAH
The theology presents God as both Holy and Savior.
1. The Holy One of Israel:
God is "Kadosh". In chapter 6, Isaiah sees the Lord and cries "Woe is me". God's holiness exposes impurity to purify us with altar coals.
2. The Suffering Servant (Ch. 53):
This is the peak of prophecy. A Messiah who conquers sin with His blood, not swords. "By his wounds we are healed." Pure Gospel, 700 years before the Cross.
3. New Heavens and Earth:
Isaiah ends with a cosmic vision. Salvation is the total renewal of creation.
Where does Isaiah meet you?
1. In Deep Weariness:
Isaiah 40 is your refuge: "They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength." He meets us in exhaustion to share His vigor.
2. When the Past Condemns:
"Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow." The book invites us out of the court of guilt into the washing room of grace.
3. God With Us:
In loneliness, he prophesies "Immanuel". "Fear not, for I am with you." His presence is our stability.
