After 400 years of silence, Matthew opens with a genealogy. It proves identity: Jesus is "Son of David" (the King) and "Son of Abraham". Matthew, a former tax collector, writes to Jews to prove Jesus is the Messiah.

The theology focuses on the "Kingdom of Heaven".
1. The New Moses:
Jesus gives five great discourses, mirroring the five books of Moses. He climbs a mountain to give the Sermon on the Mount. He doesn't abolish the Law; He fulfills and deepens it.
2. The Upside-Down Kingdom:
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus flips the world. The blessed are the poor in spirit and the meek. The Kingdom is won by surrender, not the sword.
3. Immanuel:
The book opens with "God with us" (1:23) and closes with "I am with you always" (28:20). Jesus is God's permanent presence.
Where does Matthew meet you?
1. The Radical Call:
Jesus told Matthew: "Follow me." He left everything. The Gospel invites us not to a religion, but to a Person. Following Jesus costs everything but is worth more.
2. Anxiety about Tomorrow:
In Matthew 6, Jesus treats anxiety. "Look at the birds... consider the lilies." The cure for worry isn't control, but trusting God's Fatherhood.
3. The Great Commission:
It ends with a marching order: "Go and make disciples." We are saved to bring heaven to earth. Our mission is to replicate what we received.
