Paul wrote to a church he hadn't met yet. Unlike letters addressing crises, Romans is a systematic presentation of the Gospel. It is the most important theological document ever written, putting humanity on trial and revealing God's solution.
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes."ROMANS
The theology answers: "How can a sinner be accepted by a Holy God?".
1. The Universal Diagnosis:
Paul proves everyone is guilty: the immoral, the moralist, and the religious. "All have sinned." Human pride is silenced.
2. Justification by Faith:
If the diagnosis is death, the cure is Grace. God declares us righteous not because we are good, but because Jesus paid. Christ's righteousness is credited to us by faith.
3. Life in the Spirit (Ch. 8):
Perhaps the greatest chapter in the Bible. Starts with "No condemnation" and ends with "Nothing can separate us". It describes the normal Christian life: led by the Spirit, secure in the Father's love.
Where does Romans meet you?
1. Tired of Trying to be Good:
Living on the treadmill of religion? Romans says: Stop. It is finished. You don't obey to be saved; you obey because you are saved.
2. Fighting Sin:
In Ch 7, Paul admits: "The good I want to do, I do not do." If you struggle with habits, Paul sits beside you. He validates the struggle but points to the exit: "Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ."
3. Needing Security:
In an uncertain world, Romans 8:38-39 is the rock. Nothing (death, life, angels, future) can cut the umbilical cord of God's love. You are safe.
