How did a tribe cursed by Jacob ("cursed be their anger", Gen 49:7) become the blessed tribe of the Priesthood? The answer is Zeal.
The Investigation
Levi channeled his violence into holiness.
- The Choice: At Sinai, while everyone sinned, Levi chose God over family. They killed the idolaters (their own brothers) to preserve the covenant. God turned the sword of vengeance into the sword of separation (holiness).
- The Messiah Priest: Jesus fulfills Levi but surpasses him. The Levitical priesthood offered animal blood repeatedly. Jesus, the Perfect High Priest, offered His own blood once and for all, not to cover, but to remove sin.
The Conclusion
God does not annul your strong personality (choleric, intense), He consecrates it. Levi did not stop being "furious", he became "zealous". Jesus took the whip in the temple with the same zeal as Levi, but to purify the Father's house.
