Dan is the "Black Sheep" of the tribes. His name means "Judge", but his history is marked by deviations. They abandoned their original heritage and migrated north, establishing idol worship (Judg 18).
The Investigation
Many ancient theologians (like Hippolytus) believed the Antichrist would come from the tribe of Dan, based on the tribe's omission in Revelation 7 and the "serpent" prophecy.
- Human vs. Divine Justice: Dan sought justice with his own hands (like Samson), but without holiness. This creates chaos.
- Jesus, the True Judge: Jesus reclaims what Dan failed. Jesus is not the serpent biting the heel; He is the "Seed of the Woman" crushing the serpent's head. Where Dan brought idolatry, Jesus brought true worship.
The Conclusion
Dan warns us about the danger of seeking "rights" and "justice" far from God's will. Justice without God becomes poison (serpent). But there is hope: in Ezekiel's final prophecy (Ez 48), Dan is present in the land distribution during the Millennium. God's grace reaches even the lost tribe.
