01. The Law
Abraham asked: "How shall I know?". God ordered an ancient covenant ritual: animals split in two. Usually, both parties walked between the pieces. But God put Abraham to sleep.
"On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram."
02. The Mechanics
The mechanic is unilateral. Only God (a smoking fire pot and flaming torch) passed between the pieces. God was saying: "I take full responsibility. If this covenant breaks, I will pay the price." This points to the Cross, where God was broken for us.
03. The Application
Do you feel salvation depends on your performance? The Covenant says security is in His faithfulness, not yours. When you fail, the Covenant stands because it is signed in Jesus' blood, not your sweat.
