You are facing a major decision. It could be a career change, the start of a relationship, or moving to a new city. You pray. You fast. You ask for a sign. And then, a thought pops into your mind. A strong impression. Your heart races. But seconds later, cold doubt settles in: “Was that God speaking to me, or was it just my own desire disguised as spirituality? Was it the Holy Spirit, or was it the pizza I ate last night?”
If you have ever lived through this paralyzing mental “tug-of-war,” welcome to the club. The inability to discern God’s voice is the leading cause of spiritual anxiety in the modern Church. We live in fear of taking a false step. We are terrified of saying “God said” when, in reality, we were just following our own deceptive ego.
But what if I told you that God isn’t playing hide-and-seek with you? What if the problem isn’t God’s “silence,” but your radio’s “tuning”?
In this crucial article for Phase 1 of Hearing Him, we are going to demystify the supernatural. We are going to move from “guesswork” into the spiritual technique of The Frequency. Because God is speaking right now. The question is: which station are you tuned into?
The Theology of the Radio: The Transmitter Never Fails
The biblical basis for hearing God lies in a simple, absolute statement by Jesus in John 10:27:
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
Notice that Jesus didn’t say: “My spiritual sheep, who fast for 40 days, might hear my voice.” He stated a biological fact of the Kingdom: Sheep listen. If you are born again, you have the necessary hardware to pick up God’s Frequency. The Holy Spirit lives inside you.
So why is it so hard? Imagine God is a radio station broadcasting 24 hours a day, playing perfect classical music (His will). The problem is that your mind is also a radio station, broadcasting chaotic news, fears, bills to pay, and selfish desires. And the Devil has a pirate station too, broadcasting lies and accusations.
The air is full of waves. Hearing God isn’t about making Him speak louder; it’s about learning to filter the noise to tune into the right station.
In our new material, The Frequency, we explain that God’s voice has a unique “sonic signature.” Those who spend time with Him learn to recognize the timbre. But for those just starting out, we need Filters.
The 3 Safety Filters (The Acid Test)
How do you know if the idea to “drop everything and go to the mission field” (or “buy that expensive car”) is from God or is a fleeting emotion? The Bible gives us three infallible sieves. If the “voice” you heard doesn’t pass through any of these three, discard it. It’s not God.
Filter 1: The Scripture Test (Logos vs. Rhema)
God is never schizophrenic. What He says to your heart (Rhema) will never contradict what He has already written in the Bible (Logos). The Holy Spirit will not tell you to date a married person. He will not tell you to cheat on your taxes to “help the ministry.” He will not tell you to harm your body.
The Bible is the guardrail. If the “revelation” you had has no biblical backing, or if it twists God’s character as revealed in Scripture, it is your mind (or something worse) talking. Practical Tip: Before saying “God spoke,” ask: “Where is it written?”
Filter 2: The Character Test (The Fruit of the Spirit)
God’s voice carries God’s personality. James 3:17 describes “wisdom that comes from heaven”: it is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy.
Analyze the “voice” guiding you:
- Does it generate fear, panic, and condemnation? (Probably not God).
- Does it generate haste and rush? (God is rarely in a hurry; the enemy always runs).
- Does it inflate your ego and make you feel superior to others? (Careful, that’s flesh).
God’s voice, even when it corrects us or challenges us to do something difficult, brings a deep peace at the bottom of the well. It builds up. It points to Jesus, not to us.
Filter 3: The Community Test (The Multitude of Counselors)
Proverbs says that in the multitude of counselors there is wisdom. The “lone wolf Christian” is the easiest prey for deception. If God spoke something huge to you, He will confirm it through mature people around you.
If you feel God is telling you to do something, but your pastor, your parents, your spouse, and your mature friends say “that’s crazy,” be careful. Your “antenna” might be malfunctioning. The humility to submit your “revelation” to the judgment of others is the greatest protection against deception.
Rhema: When the Word Explodes in Your Chest
There is a giant difference between reading the Bible as a history book and hearing God through the Bible. Logos is the written Word, general, for everyone. Rhema is the “breathed” Word, specific, for you, right now.
You know when you are reading a verse you’ve read a thousand times, but suddenly it “jumps” off the page, your heart burns, and you start to cry? That is a Rhema. That is God using the ancient text to speak about your current problem. That is the frequency where life happens.
Many people don’t experience miracles because they live only on theology (intellectual knowledge), but not on revelation (relational knowledge). Jesus said: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word [Rhema] that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
Are you feeding on stale bread or fresh bread?
How to Tune into the Right Station? (The Practical Method)
Discernment isn’t a mystical gift for “elite prophets.” It is a skill you train, like playing the guitar or learning a new language. The more time you spend in silence in His presence, the more familiar His voice becomes.
In our newest release, the book The Frequency, we don’t just stay in theory. We created a “Tuning Manual.” We teach practical exercises to:
- Silence internal noise (the technique of active silence).
- Identify interference (emotions, traumas, external voices).
- Record and validate what God speaks (the power of the spiritual journal).
Don’t try to make the most important decisions of your life (marriage, career, ministry) based on spiritual “heads or tails.” God wants to talk to you about these matters at the dinner table.
Conclusion: The Silence Is Over
Heaven is not silent. The problem is that our world is too loud. God is speaking about your future right now. He is whispering directions to get out of this crisis. He is singing songs of deliverance over your family.
But He speaks in a low, gentle frequency (“a still small voice,” as Elijah discovered). To hear, you need to stop. You need to tune in.
Are you willing to learn the language of the Spirit? Are you ready to trade agonizing doubt for the certainty of one who says: “I know whom I have believed”?
Your journey to hear God clearly starts now. Don’t take another step in the dark. Turn on the light.
This article is the introduction to the vital theme of our new release. If you want the complete guide, the step-by-step method, and the tools to unlock your spiritual ears, E-book 4 “The Frequency” is now available.
